Determination of silicon in diesel and biodiesel by Microwave Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry

چکیده
The presence of metals and metalloids in petrochemical products can infl uence the performance of engines, and contribute to shortening the lifetime of the machinery. In addition, some elements act as catalyst poison, contributing to increases in the amount of toxic gases and particulate matter emitted by vehicles. Silicon compounds such as siloxanes, for example, are added to diesel as anti-foaming agents. During combustion, these compounds decompose to form silicon oxide, which can form a coating layer on the catalyst element of the exhaust system and signifi cantly increase air pollution [1]. Thus, regulation in this fi eld of analysis is increasingly common and recent legislation in Brazil has established the maximum concentration of Si plus Al in diesel as 80 mg kg-1 [2]. Selective Separation and Preconcentration of trace Amounts of Gallium in Water and Rice Samples using Cloud Point Extraction and Determination by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry
In the present study a cloud-point extraction process using non-ionic surfactant Triton X-114 for selective extraction of gallium from aqueous solutions was developed. The method is based on the complex formation of Ga (III) with N, N′ -bis (salycilidene)-1, 2-phenylenediamine (salophen) as a chelating agent in buffer media of pH 5. After phase separation and dilution of the surfactant-rich pha...

متن کاملModeling the effects of biodiesel-diesel fuel blends on CO2 emission of a diesel engine by response surface methodology
Nowadays biodiesel is receiving more attention as a most important renewable energy for using in diesel engines. Inthis research, the application of Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was highlighted to investigate the effects of biodiesel-diesel blends (B0, B20, B50 and B100), engine operating parameters (engine load and speed) on CO2 emission of a diesel engine. The experiments were conducte...
متن کاملDetermination of 137Ba Isotope Abundances in Water Samples by Inductively Coupled Plasma-optical Emission Spectrometry Combined with Least-squares Support Vector Machine Regression
A simple and rapid method for the determination of 137Ba isotope abundances in water samples by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) coupled with least-squares support vector machine regression (LS-SVM) is reported. By evaluation of emission lines of barium, it was found that the emission line at 493.408 nm provides the best results for the determination...
متن کاملDirect analysis of Cr , Ni , Pb and V in ethanol fuel by Microwave Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectrometry Application note Authors
A simple dilute-and-shoot procedure for determination of Cr, Ni, Pb and V in ethanol fuel by Microwave Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (MP-AES) is proposed. Samples were easily prepared and neither special nor expensive gases were needed for performing analyses. All limits of detection from 0.3–40 μg/L were compatible with the requirements taken into account when considering fuel impacts on...
